Add just a drop or two to paint to improve drying FROM THE INSIDE OUT. Liquid Lead Dryer does not darken, form a skin or crack. Toughens paint. For years, we have been using a 24% solution of Lead Napthanate and it has worked well…very well, indeed. The only drawback is that it's a bit dark, but so little is ever used that it presented no problem to the painter. As with all lead driers, it contains its own oxygen (in the form of peroxides) and dries paint from the inside as well as the outside and thus avoids those "blisters" of paint where we see a skin formed over a still-soft interior. Lead driers prevent paint wrinkles and strengthen the paint film.
There are, however, a few troublesome qualities to the lead Napthanate. Chief among them is that it can react with sulphur, thus poorly made pigments coming from Russia, India and China are not washed and contain residual sulphur which causes lead compounds to darken. We have been able to buffer that effect with the inclusion of a calcium drier. After testing, we have decided to replace the Napthanate with a superior lead drier (it's name is as long as your arm) and it's advantages are being much lighter in tone and, because of a very different molecular structure, also acts as a UV blocker (actively guarding the pigment from sunlight).

This lead drier was formulated for the printing ink industry, guaranteeing controlled drying without stickiness and greater resistance to fading due to UV exposure. It’s a real advance for the painter.
